    Product design

    (2023)
In this project, I designed a set of products that combine the concepts of ghost money and lottery tickets, with “the unknown” at the center. The burning of ghost money and the purchase of lottery tickets are different forms, but they both hold the expectation of the unknown: the former seeks abundance for the deceased, while the latter is a way for the living to look forward to the future.

Burning joss paper, also known as "ghost money," is a traditional Chinese ritual where specially made paper looks like money or goods is burned as an offering to ancestors and deceased loved ones. The belief is that the burned paper transforms into resources for the departed in the spiritual world, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

    paper-made crafts for deceased)

Paper money is a symbol of the Chinese tradition of providing material supplies to the deceased, an act that is more of a silent giving than a direct emotional expression or communication. Death is an irreversible fact, and burning paper money is actually more of a way for the living to comfort themselves. Based on this traditional custom, this special set of paper money in this project aims to provide spiritual replenishment to the living.

Memories are the most important link between the living and the dead. The cards in this set look like ordinary paper money on the surface, but when the coating on the back is scratched off, what is presented is not a material reward, but memories and wishes related to the deceased. After all, instead of trusting the financial system of hell, why not choose to believe in the magic of love?
